Reps of Duty Bearers engaged in the 12 Project Districts.

Follow-up meetings on previous engagements with duty bearers in the 12 project districts were conducted to assess the progress made by duty bearers towards the inclusion of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities in social services. While some modest progress has been achieved in various project districts, there was a need for more efforts to be made by both duty bearers and Parent Self-Help Groups (PSHGs). The duty bearers hold the position that social services are demand-driven, and thus the onus is on parents/caregivers to make those demands on behalf of their children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The meetings reinforced the call on duty bearers to ensure equity in respect of social services for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
